Frequently Asked Questions about destination workshops:

COSTA RICA
Is the flight included?
No. There are many, many travel options between Toronto (YYZ) and San Jose (airport code is SJO). The one time I attempted to arrange a group flight I went a little bit crazy and had to lie down for a week. I'm happy to give travel tips and suggestions, as is any travel agent.
How do I get down to Manuel Antonio? The first 15 registrants staying at one of the houses get
free transfers between the Airport in San Jose and the houses at the beginning and end of the week. The drive to Manuel Antonio takes about 2 hours by road. If you're not coming in the chartered van with our group, the cheapest option is the regional bus for under $10 each way. You can also fly to Quepos in about 25 minutes for approx $80. In a worst case scenario you can even get a taxi from SJO all the way to Manuel Antonio for approx $160 and do some sightseeing along the way.
But is it really that fabulous? Here's a link to some pics of one of the houses from our last trip there:
OceanPics. Decide for yourself :)
Do I have to stay at one of the houses? Not at all. There are many other hotels within walking distance.
Is there a Budget option? Yes, there are a number of "backpacker" type places to stay down at the beach, especially popular with the Surfer Dude crowd. Prices can be very cheap. Likewise in the town of Quepos a few kms inland.
Tell me about the meals. We've hired a chef for each of the houses to prepare breakfast and dinner each day. Just roll out of bed and breakfast is waiting for you. Likewise for dinner at sunset.
Lunch? We found last time that a formal lunch was overkill given the size of breakfast and dinner. Help yourself to left-overs in the fridge for lunch, or grab something inexpensive on the beach. Many excursions and day-trips include lunch in the package.
Is alcohol included? We'll be supplying some drinks a few times through the week, but for the most part you're on your own. There's a great supermarket with reasonable prices on liquor etc. in town. If you're looking for a week of free booze this probably isn't the trip for you. Have you considered Vegas?
What excursions are available? Guided walks in the National Park, horseback riding, zip-lining the list goes on and on. Thomas, the houses's concierge, will gladly advise and arrange all manner of half-day and full-day excursions (at your own expense).

LAS VEGAS
When's the next Vegas trip? Somewhere around the end of September, 2012. Feel free to check back to my website from time to time to see what is coming up.
Are all hotels on the Strip? No, and actually this is very important. Many internet searches will return results for hotels near Vegas.
Some will be walking distance, and some will be driving distance. Taxis in Vegas are expensive enough that many cab drivers can retire very young, but rental cars can be very cheap and parking is almost always free even in the heart of Vegas. Please pay close attention to location, and don't hesitate to ask me about location, location, location.
Do I really have to come to the classes? Yes. And participate.
Why Las Vegas? Why not? It's fun, it's hotter than anywhere in Canada, and what happens in Vegas... But hey, you can usually take some of my workshops in Ottawa in February if you're allergic to palm trees.

GENERAL
Will it rain?
There are some things even I have no control over.
Can I write the trip off as a business expense? An accountant is the best source for this information, but the answer is usually yes. It will depend a bit on your income and other expenses. Revenue Canada allows deductions for two conferences a year, so why not make this one of them? It makes my accountant very happy when I travel because he says I don't have enough expenses. When was the last time you made your accountant happy?
What trips are planned for 2013? I barely know what I'll be doing tomorrow, but I generally plan workshop trips about six months in advance
. However, it is possible that I may be taking a break in 2013 unless someone else wants to do all the planning for me.
